Local Events Planned for Breastfeeding Awareness

On Thursday, August 1, 2019, the Inyo County Health & Human Services Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program and the Toiyabe Indian Health Project WIC Program will be holding their annual Breastfeeding Awareness Walk at the Tri-County Fairgrounds to celebrate moms and raise community awareness of the value of breastfeeding. The event takes place in the Charles Brown Auditorium during the lunch hour from 12:00 to 1:00pm. It is free and open to the community. It will include raffle prizes for participants, booths with information from multiple agencies serving families and children, t-shirt decorating, a photo booth, a breastfeeding area, and light refreshments.

The event represents the 14th annual Breastfeeding Awareness Walk in Inyo County. The walk is part of a larger effort this year by local agencies and groups to promote and highlight breastfeeding during the month of August. Northern Inyo Hospital, First 5 Inyo County, Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS), Inyo County WIC, and Toiyabe WIC, among others, will be hosting a variety of events and activities for moms, parents, and children throughout the month of August. The events are open to everyone.

The Breastfeeding Awareness Walk also coincides with World Breastfeeding Week, August 1-7, promoted by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) each year.

If you would like to learn more about World Breastfeeding Week, go to www.worldbreastfeedingweek.org or call Inyo County WIC at 760-872-1885.
